Important Dates:

February 9th - 100th Day of School! Dressing up! Nothing is cuter than a small child dressed like a 100-year-old. Please send your child in that day dressed up and ready to take photos! Keep in mind, it is still a gym day, so have them dressed comfortable enough to run and play later on in the day. There will be no changing of clothes at school.

Photo Backdrop - I will have a backdrop for our friends to take pictures, be silly, and just have fun!


In addition, as a project, children must create a poster at home with a specific theme and decorate it with 100 items. They should be ready to hand it in that day! Make sure to include a catchy phrase such as “100 days smarter”

Examples: Theme - Summer, you can decorate the poster with 25 bunnies, 25 flowers, 25 birds, 25 butterflies. Another theme could be the Solar system - 100 items that are found within the solar system.

February 17th - Report Card Distribution. 12 noon dismissal. After School will be in session. Candy Sale ends.

February 20th and 21st - School Closed.

February 22nd - Ash Wednesday begins. School Mass.

Catholic Schools Week Fun!!

Monday - We will attend Mass as a school. Students should be in full winter uniform.

Tuesday - Crazy Hat and Sock Day! Students can bring in board games to play as a class in the afternoon.

Wednesday - Dress in our school colors! Red and White or any Saint Gabriel logo clothing.
Students will make cards for various essential workers.

Thursday - Dress down day. Students may choose to wear their favorite sports team gear or cartoon character shirt. No costumes. Students will create letters of gratitude.

Friday - Dress down. Students may bring in their own snack and each class will watch a movie with Catholic theme.

Toys for Tots Drive - Mrs. Ness and grade 5 are currently sponsoring a Toys for Tots collection for less fortunate children who may not otherwise receive any presents this Christmas. 

December 8th - Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a holy day of obligation. Grades 1 through 8 will attend the 9:00 Mass. This is a full day of school and children are to be in complete winter uniform.

December 9th - Our annual Christmas Boutique will take place. More details will follow.

December 16th - We are thrilled that our Home School Association will once again be sponsoring our Christmas Tree lighting and pictures with Santa along with other fun activities.

December 16th - Due to our faculty Christmas celebration, there will be no After School Program in session on this day.

December 21st - Our annual Christmas Show in person will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. More information regarding advance ticket purchases will follow in the coming days.

December 22nd - Half Day for all grades. Kindergarten through grade 8 will dismiss at 12 Noon. There will be no After School Program in session. This will be a free dress down day for Kindergarten through grade 8. Christmas colors are encouraged.

Hello 2nd grade families and welcome aboard!!

Today was such an exciting day! Your children are so lovely and it was a pleasure getting to know them!

Just a few reminders:

*Please look over the supplies list to make sure that your child has all that they need for a successful school year. (Headphones were added to the list.)

*Please label your child’s name on EVERYTHING!! I cannot stress that enough.*

*We will have GYM tomorrow! Please wear summer gym uniforms. Thursdays will be our new Gym day.

This week we are working on introductory work. We will be completing “All About Me” assignments and review what was learned last year in the subject areas!

I will post any new information you may need in the coming days. Do not worry! I know the beginning of the school year can be a bit stressful trying to iron things out. We will get through it together and settle in very soon!

It was nice meeting some of you today! I am still trying to familiarize myself with faces at dismissal. Bare with me!

Summer Work for Students Entering Second Grade

Dear Second Grader,

I hope you have a fantastic summer! In order to help you do your best when you return for the new school year, please review the skills learned in First Grade over the summer. All assignments will be due on the first day of school.

MATH:

• Memorize the addition and subtraction facts from 0-20
• Practice counting coins
• Practice telling time on an analog clock (to the hour and half hour)
• Practice your Math skills by logging into your Dreambox account and play the online games.

 

READING:

• Read at least 5 grade appropriate books. Write the title and author of each book on loose leaf paper. 
• On loose leaf paper, write a nonfiction book report. It must include the title, author, three new facts that you learned, two vocabulary words and their definitions.
• On loose leaf paper, write a fiction book report. It must include the title, author, and illustrator. Remember to include who the characters are, where and when the setting takes place, and what your favorite part of the story is.

 

WRITING:

• Choose two of the following prompts to respond to. Write each response on loose leaf paper. Each response should be at least 4 sentences long.

• Write about your family and what you like to do together.
• What is your favorite subject?  Why?
• Write about something you did over the summer.
• Write a letter introducing yourself to your Second Grade teacher.

 

RELIGION:

• Remember to practice your prayers and attend Mass every Sunday.

Second Grade is celebrating Black History Month during the month of February! We are learning about the important men and women who have made contributions to our society. Students will be learning through films, documentaries, and music!

In Math, Second grade is having fun learning how to count money and tell time!

First Penance will take place on March 5, 2022 at 12:00 noon.

Welcome back families!

My name is Mrs. Mazi and I am very excited to be your child's Second Grade teacher for this school year. I am looking forward to working with your child and helping him/her grow in their education. My goal is to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one as well as instill a love for learning along the way!

***The first day of school is tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 8th!

Students must arrive at 8:00am.
We will dismiss at 11:35am as it is a half day of school. Snack is optional.

On full school days, dismissal is at 2:40pm. 
 

• Tomorrow, students should bring in all school supplies that is listed below. There will be no sharing of any supplies so please make sure your child has the supplies that they need daily.
• Students should also bring in their summer reading assignment so they can receive credit for their work.
