Good morning my amazing artist!
Before we start our last art day, I would like to thank you all for the hard work you did. I am so proud of you. I hope everyone is well an remaining safe. If you have tried to contact me through email know that I did see your work, however due to the quantity of emails I received during this time. I was not able to respond on time. Mrs Barbosa had lots to read and do. But I did appreciate those that continued working along with each art video and spanish activities. It was wonderful looking at all your ART WORK! I hope you enjoy your summer and I will see each of you in the fall!!

Children hear native speaker language as they listen to the instructions for the Spanish sun craft. The images make the meaning of the words very clear, so they understand. Let's switch it up a bit.!!!!
Follow these simple steps to make the most of the Spanish sun craft as a language-learning activity.
1. Watch the entire video with your child. The content is about 1 minute long.
2. Start the video again, and pause it as you do each part of the project.
3. Repeat the key words as you do each step. For example, un círculo (circle), papel (paper), pegamento (glue), la boca ( mouth), los ojitos (eyes), los puntos (points).
4. Talk about the sun you are making.
You can use simple phrases like these: ¡Qué bonito! Me gusta el sol. Me gusta este color.
5. When you have finished each step, back up and listen to those instructions again before going on. The actions you just completed reinforce the language.
6. When you are done, hang your sun where you can see it and talk about it in Spanish.

>Ojitos móviles –Googly eyes ( you can use just cut out eyes or you can draw eyes.)

HI again my Amazing Artists I loved the last art work you did.. YOU ALL DID AMAZING WORK!! SO PROUD OF YOU !
Today we will look at an artist called DEGAS... than look at the google slides about the little dancer and other sculputures . Today we will only watch the story and you can follow along with the instructions on google slides to pose like some of the sculptures in the slides. HAVE FUN!!
Edgar Degas was a French artist born in Paris in 1834. He was supposed to become a lawyer, but he preferred to doodle so he became an artist instead! He mainly drew and painted pictures of everyday life such as this woman brushing her hair.
Paris was a very exciting place to live if you were a young artist. Lots of artists travelled from all over the world to work there and Edgar Degas met a group of young artists called the impressionists. They wanted to paint scenes from everyday life, like food, people and the countryside. (At that time most art was about grander things such as history or Greek and Roman mythology). Peaches and almonds on a table might not seem too crazy but this was considered weird and exciting at the time!

Little Dancer Aged Fourteen 1880–1, cast c.1922
TateDegas is perhaps best known for painting ballet dancers. He was fascinated by them, and wanted to capture their grace and power. He often painted them backstage, getting ready for a performance.
This little bronze sculpture of a dancer is a copy of a wax figure Degas made in 1880. At this time Degas was starting to go blind, and he found it harder and harder to paint. So he began making sculptures. This sculpture is of a little girl who was a ballet student at the Paris Opéra. Her skirt is made of cloth. Her hair is made of bronze, but in the original sculpture she had real hair, tied back with a ribbon.

Welcome to another episode of Salsa

When her two younger siblings are too disruptive in the house, Carmen tricks them into going outside to play. Salvador, the middle brother, and María, the baby sister, go their separate ways to build their own houses. Elsewhere, the Wolf (Lobo) is hungry and wandering though the forest; he comes upon María's house of straw. He tries to be polite, but nearby flowers cause him to sneeze her house down.
Episode 207: "The Three Pigs" - Activity 37 Go on a "rosado (pink) hunt" in your house. Tell your child that the object of the game is to find as many things that are rosado (pink) as possible. Give your child a pad of paper and a pencil and tell him/her to write down or make sketches of the things that he/she finds. Tell your child that you will also be hunting for things colored rosado (pink). Set a timer for five minutes and engage in the hunt separately. At the end of five minutes, meet up with your child and compare lists. Walk around the house looking at the objects that you each included on your respective lists. Be sure to tell the color (rosado/pink) of the object as you discuss it. Discuss similarities and differences in your lists. Discuss where most pink objects were found and why that might be. Extend the activity by expanding the number of colors (rojo/red, verde/green, azul/blue, amarillo/yellow, morado/purple, negro/black, rosado/pink, blanco/white, anaranjado/orange) for which you are hunting. Teach your child how to organize his/her paper for easy recording of the found objects by color designation.

HI My amazing Artists
Its Henri Matisse Week!!
Today we will look into learning about Henri Matisse. Watch the google slide on the artist and the video demonstration below.
Henri Matisse- Born: December 31, 1869 in Le Cateau-Cambrésis, France
- Died: November 3, 1954 in Nice, France
Henri Matisse grew up in the northern part of France. His father was a grain merchant and strict with Henri. He went to school in Paris and studied law. In 1888 he passed the bar and took a job as a law clerk.
Becoming a Painter
In 1889 Henri came down with appendicitis. During his recovery his mother got him some art supplies for something to do. He fell in love with painting and art. He decided he wanted to become an artist. His father was very disappointed.
Henri began to explore painting. His mother encouraged him not to follow the normal rules of art, but to try out new things and to paint his emotions. He spent a year studying art at the Academie Julian in Paris, but left to train under the artist Gustave Moreau, where he could explore more modern styles of painting.
In 1897, Matisse met painter John Peter Russell. Russell introduced him to impressionism and to the work of van Gogh. It opened up a new world to Matisse.
By the end of his life Matisse was thoroughly interested in patterns and from this interest came his collages. Made from boldly hand-painted paper cut into shapes, Matisse’s collages were usually large works of simplicity. He create a book, Jazz, illustrated with these collages.

Episode 206:
Review the five senses with your child (seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, and tasting). Play the Touch and Guess Game. Find and place several interesting textured objects in a large paper grocery bag. While keeping the bag opening almost closed, ask your child to reach in, choose one object, and hold and touch it inside the bag. Ask your child to describe the texture (how it feels) and other properties of the object he/she is holding. Have your child guess what the object might be and then pull it from the bag to determine the accuracy of the guess. If needed, further discuss and examine properties of the object that would have helped your child make a more accurate guess. Repeat the game. Continue the activity by creating texture prints. Provide your child with several colors of peeled, broken crayons and several sheets of cream or white construction paper or newsprint. Working with your child, demonstrate how to create a texture rubbing by laying the piece of paper on top interesting texture and using the side of the peeled crayon to rub across the paper to capture the texture underneath. Give your child a piece of paper and crayons. Ask your child to attempt to fill his/her Paper with quince (15) rubbings of interesting textures. When finished, discuss the rubbings. Ask your child questions, such as which was his/her favorite rubbing; which produced the most interesting texture; did he/she find quince rubbings; what color(s) did he/she use to make the rubbings; are there repeated rubbings; what shapes can be found in the rubbings? Note: Young children may have difficultly manipulating the paper and crayon to make a texture rubbing. You may need to assist in holding the paper while the child acquires particularly difficult rubbings.

Episode 205: "¿Donde Esta? Or, Where is it?" -
Activity 35 While out on a walk with your child, observe some pájaros (birds) and collect some pine cones of varying sizes and shapes. Upon return, provide your child with a magnifying glass/hand lens so he/she may make observations about the pine cones. Encourage your child to explore the properties (e.g., size, color, texture, and shape) of pine cones and discuss his/her observations. Be sure to look to see if you can locate a seedpod. Discuss the seed and compare and contrast to other seeds that your child has experienced. (You will have to provide some other seeds if your child has few or no prior experiences with seeds.) To extend the activity, work with your child to make pájaro (bird) creations using the pine cones. Provide your child with construction paper, child safety scissors, glue, crayons, string, watercolor markers, felt and other material scraps, buttons, sequins, ribbon scraps, etc. Ask your child to think of a way to make a "pájaro" representation using the pine cone. Using the pine cone as the main portion of the "pájaro" body, work with your child to add eyes, feathers and wings, a beak, legs, feet, and other features as desired by your child. (Hint: a pine cone turned on its largest end can be made into an owl-like bird; a thin, elongated pine turned on its side can be used to make a flying bird; and a fat pine cone can be turned on its side to create a turkey-like bird.) Use string or decorative ribbon to hang the bird creations in your child's room or some other special place.

Hi My amazing artists
Today we will learn about the Artist Charles Demuth
Charles Demuth was born November 8, 1883, in lancaster, Pennsylvania he died in Octover 23, 1935.
He painted Amercan cityscapes and still lifes. He his famous for your painting of the Number 5 in Gold. He used lines and colors in most of his paintings.
I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold.
His inspiration for the painting was of a poem by William Carlos Williams of a fire truck raising down the street.
Follow the instructions below to create your Charles demuth inspired art work.

Students are instructed to pick a number and sketch it out on their 12" x 9" multi media paper. I then demonstrated how to make it into a bubble number.
Students then drew 4 lines ,diagonal and horizontal lines across the number dividing them into sections.
Students then drew some smaller numbers in the circles and some random geometric shapes. They can create a pattern on the bubble number or color in warm colors only.
They should trace over the lines with a fine tip permanent marker. Use color pencils or crayons or markers.

Today we will learn about Paul Klee.
Paul Klee (1879-1940) German-Swiss Artist
Paul Klee was born in Münchenbuchsee, Switzerland in 1879. His father, Hans Klee, was a music teacher, and mother, Ida Frick, had trained to be a singer. Paul was the second of two children.
Paul took an interest in music and drawing at a young age. By the age of seven he was playing the violin, and at age eight he was given a box of sidewalk chalk by his grandmother. In the beginning his parents encouraged the development of his musical skills, though in his teen years he decided to focus on becoming an artist.

In this episode things start falling from the sky, Super Armadillo saves the day once more.

Episode 204: “Super Armadillo - Trouble from Above” - Activity 34
Provide your child with magazines, books, and other appropriate print materials, as well as some small slips of paper that can be used as bookmarks. Use the print materials to play the game I’m Searching for a Machine with your child. Tell your child that the object of the game is to find as many machines as possible that can move to a stationary position of arriba (up) or abajo (down). To play the game, each player should select three resources from the collection of magazines, books, etc. and take a small pile of paper slips. Set a kitchen timer for five minutes and begin the search for the machines that can move to a position of arriba or abajo. Use the slips ofpaper to mark the places of the machine pictures that are found. At the end of the five minute period, ask each player to share the machines he/she has discovered and to discuss and justify how each one can move to a position of arriba or abajo. Verbal commendations should be given to the player who finds the most machines, the player who finds the most unusual machine, and the player who has the most original (but justifiable) explanation of movement. Play can resume by searching for a new object. To extend the activity, you may want to encourage your child to choose one of the objects that he/she found interesting during the search and make a trip to the library to find a book related to it.

Activity 33
In this episode Monster’s fish, Reynaldo, wants and needs un amigo (friend). Have your child make a list of adjectives or descriptive words that can be used to explain the traits, qualities, and characteristics of un amigo. Label the list with an appropriate title using the word amigo(s). Using a beginner’s dictionary, teach your child how to look up a word and verify that it is an adjective. Have fun! The video below instruct students in the vocabulary and well as an intro.

You guessed it we are doing a hippo this week in honor of the blue hippo sculpture.William is the nickname given to this small Egyptian Middle Kingdom statue of a hippopotamus. The statue was made in the 12th Dynasty (c.1961-1878 BC) . Our hippo is going to be purple.

Episode 202: "The Monster is Angry" -
Activity 32
Work with your child to develop a list that describes times when he/she
feels angry (enojado),
happy (contento),
sad (triste), and
afraid (tengo miedo).
Using the list of items above , ask your child to respond to the situation using an appropriate phrase, such as estoy triste (I'm sad), estoy contento (I'm happy - if child is male) or estoy contenta (I'm happy - if child is female); and tengo miedo (I'm afraid).
Encourage your child to demonstrate the emotion felt for each of the items on the list, using facial expression and body language, as they respond with the appropriate phrase.
To extend the activity (for First and Second Grade age children), you can briefly discuss that the items in the chart are written phrases instead of complete sentences.
You may want to discuss with your child how the phrases could be turned into complete sentences.

Picasso was a spanish painter 1881-1973.
He had dyslexia, had trouble reading and writing.
One day he grought a pigeon to school to draw!!!
He went to Paris and was poor and kept a mouse as a pet. Many people did not understand his paintings and he could not sell alot for a long time. He created something called Cubism.

When he became sad he painted using blue colors and when he was happy he would use rose/pink colors in his art work. He finally became famous and rich. He painted until he was 90 yrs old and painted more than 200 paintings.

On his way home with a pizza, Chivo Pequeño resists numerous offers to trade something for the pizza. That is until the mysterious Gatita offers him 15 “special” pieces of corn.
